Oakdale Lodge


An art class for clients in the Lodge

Built in 1970, Oakdale Lodge began operations on the 15th of February with an initial intake of nine residents, all of whom worked next door at Oakdale Industries. Some of these original residents are still living at the Lodge.

Extensions, redevelopment and upgrading of facilities over the years now provide high quality accomodation and personal space for thirty eight residents.

Today the residents are supported by a variety of programs including the 'Ageing in Place' and 'Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) programs. They are involved in a range of occupational and community access services throughout the Hobart area.

The Lodge is indeed a home to its' residents. Leisure activities; visits by a variety of people including entertainers, sporting personalities and police and emergency services personnel; and regular day trips and holidays help to ensure that there is variety in their daily lives.

Over the years a favourite with all clients has been an annual holiday. The list of places visited is extensive. All Australian Capital Cities, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and North Queensland, Alice Springs and a Murray River Cruise have featured. Some residents have also ventured to New Zealand, Fiji and the U.S.A.
