Other Residential Services

Other residential services are currently divided in to three divisions; Community Living Program; Kingborough Services; and Youth Services.
In total 22 residents are supported in six homes from Glenorchy to Kingborough.
The Community Living Program (CLP) was Oakdale Services Tasmania's first venture in to home services.
This commenced in 1994 when the eleven people who were living together at Yalambee Hostel were given the opportunity to move into smaller homes in the community.
The transition from hostel style accommodation to community living was very successful. Participants go about their lives in a community setting and develop valuable life skills.
The residents take pride in looking after their own home, doing the household chores, grocery shopping and cooking.

They also have a variety of employment, further supporting their integration in to the community.
Our Youth Services provides accommodation for teenagers and young adults. The service started in 1997, initially supporting three clients in temporary respite accommodation until a suitable home was found.
Once this was found and some minor alterations were made, the clients moved in and settled into their new home in Kingston very quickly. Since then further extensions and alterations to the house have made it even more comfortable for all residents.
A further four clients joined Youth Services in June 2002. Initially three clients were supported in their existing accommodation in New Town and one client was in respite accommodation. In the meantime we lobbied sucessfully for a new, purpose built home. After a long process the new home in Firthside was ready for all four clients on the 16th March 2004.

In 2006 we took over management of a third property in the Kingborough area. This home supports three young adults and one older resident.
One of the initial CLP properties became unsuitable to the changing needs of residents. In 2009 we were allocated a further property in the Kingborough areaand the lease on the initial property was relinquished. This provided an opportunity for a slightly different mix of clients to be achieved, providing better options for those involved.
All clients have a wide range of programs and social activities available to them, and also enjoy regular holidays both in Tasmania and interstate. They also regularly participate in activities involving all clients across Oakdale Services Tasmania.
