Youth Services

Did I really want to
hang out the washing?

Oakdale's Youth Services provides accommodation for teenagers and young adults. The service started in 1997, initially supporting three clients in temporary respite accommodation until a suitable home was found.

Once this was found and some minor alterations were made, the clients moved in and settled into their new home in Kingston very quickly. Since then further extensions and alterations to the house have made it even more comfortable for all residents.

A further four clients joined Youth Services in June 2002. Initially three clients were supported in their existing accommodation in New Town and one client was in respite accommodation. In the meantime Oakdale Services Tasmania lobbied sucessfully for a new, purpose built home. After a long process the new home in Firthside was ready for all four clients on the 16th March 2004.

Pursuing "The Cup"

In 2006 Oakdale Services took over management of a third property in the Kingborough area. This home supports three young adults and one older resident.

These residents enjoy a range of activities, currently including a program with "Sailability Tasmania" where they compete against a combined Community Living Program/Lodge Team in pursuit of "The Grande Auld Oakdale Cup".
